Esteban Lepaul is hoping for a call-up to Zinedine Zidane's first France squad. The 26-year-old Stade Rennais forward reacted after his club's goalless draw in the Europa Conference League.
The player shared his feelings with Canal Plus. "I hope so! We will see," said Esteban Lepaul. He went on to express faith in his journey. "And if it happens, we'll keep working, and one day, everything will be rewarded, I'm sure."
Zidane's definitive squad will be announced on Friday. Lepaul is on a preliminary list following an outstanding domestic season. He finished as Ligue 1's top scorer with 21 goals, 20 of which came for Rennes. He moved to Roazhon Park from Angers last summer.
His path involved a rebuild after an early exit from Olympique Lyonnais' youth setup. Lepaul has never been capped by France. The national team, currently top of their World Cup qualifying group with 9 points, will face Turkey on September 25.
Despite a blank against Sturm Graz, Lepaul's previous campaign makes a strong case. Zinedine Zidane now has his first major selection decision to make.
